Alberta’s Equestrian Trails and Equestrian Campgrounds

We often receive calls from horse owners looking for places to trail ride in Alberta. If you are an experienced rider looking for places to ride on your own, here are some suggested equestrian staging areas. 
Several Provincial Parks and recreation areas provide equestrian facilities and allow overnight camping. These equestrian staging areas usually provide loading/unloading ramps and hitching rails, and some also provide corrals, vault toilets, bear proof garbage containers, picnic tables, water wells, fire rings and firewood.

Lynx Creek Campground
Adanac Road, follow for 15-20 minutes. 

Wilmore Wilderness Park
Various trails throughout park. This is wilderness riding, therefore topographical maps are necessary. There are various staging areas. Trails include Indian Trail, West Sulphur Trail, Carson Creek, Pope Thoreau, and Monaghan Creek, as well as many others.
Big Berland 
Located 33 km south of Muskeg River on Highway 40

Popular staging area for people entering Willmore Wilderness Park, located 8 km W. 

Rock Lake

Located 86 km (52 mi) northwest of Hinton off Highway 40

Primary staging area for Willmore Wilderness Park, which contains approximately 750km of equestrian/hiking trails (undeveloped)
