Renowned Canadian Dressage Rider to Conduct Gait to Success Clinic

The Alberta Equestrian Federation is excited to announce Canadian Olympian Gina Smith will be the feature clinician for an upcoming Gait to Success dressage clinic Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, 2023 at Horse In Hand Ranch in Blackfalds, Alta.

An accomplished athlete and highly regarded coach for equestrians of all levels, Smith’s impressive resume includes numerous awards and titles. She has represented Canada at multiple Olympics, most notably as a member of the Canadian Equestrian Team that brought home Team Bronze in dressage at the 1988 Olympics, as well as winning Team Gold at the 1991 Pan Am Games in Cuba. She won the Swarovski Canadian League World Cup Final at the Royal Horse Show in 1999 and represented Canada at the World Cup Final in Holland in 2000. She is an EC NCCP Licensed Coach and an exceptional resource for developing riders.

Smith will share her classic dressage principles and harmonious training style with riders from Training Level up through Prix St. Georges and higher during the interactive clinic. Riders and auditors alike will gain insights into a progressive training system that they can apply to their own equestrian development.

In addition to demonstrating correct dressage training through the levels, this year’s Gait to Success will feature an interactive question and answer period with Smith each day, on-site shopping with a variety of vendors, as well as lunch, snacks, and beverages for all riders and auditors.

Participants interested in riding in the clinic have until August 31 to apply. Once applications close, the selection committee will choose riders that demonstrate a variety of levels and abilities to create a diverse and progressive learning experience. The Gait to Success clinic series provide opportunities for Alberta equestrians of all levels to enhance their riding skills with renowned clinicians. Past clinics have played a significant role in supporting grassroots athletes and providing them access to upper-level training.
